Home Duck hits the Net
It’s the third day of a New Year and the future looks bright. A new administration will be in office before the month is out and the days are really getting longer. Getting thru the holidays and the darkest time of the year can be a challenge, especially for gardeners, when there’s very little work to be had. Add to that the state of the economy and it should be no surprise to me that I’m as broke as smoke. No worries though because, here in coastal California, spring is already on its way. People will be thinking more and more about their landscapes with each sunny day and the rainy ones make the grass grow. Here’s hoping that ecological landscaping and green-building become more than just buzz words and people begin to give these ideas more than just lip-service in 2009. I’ve been surprised that, although most people know that green is good, those same people often think of environmentalism as an elitist affair, as something that they can’t afford even before there’s any numbers on the table. I’ve found that, for the average client, I have to downplay the green side just so as not to scare them off. Fundamentally I’ve got to work and I’ll do what the client needs, but it’s crazy that people are afraid of compost, afraid of bugs, and of the sun, the stars and the moon.
